Waikanae Swimming Pool

Overview

Suitable for all ages

This popular summer pool gives a great alternative to the beach if you’re still wanting water action but perhaps without the salt and sand. Set within a large grassy area there’s plenty of space and some shade provided by big old trees. There are some tables and benches dotted around but take towels / picnic blanket and set up for the day. You can buy pies, sausage rolls and ice creams but you can also take your own food and there are bbqs for hire.

The hydroslide is for aged 5+ and the water is cold so be warned! It also goes completely dark once you’re in the middle of the slide so you might want to prepare younger kids for this. There are 2 completely separate toddlers’ pool with some shade sails one has a little fountain spray and is very shallow, the other is a little deeper. Both are heated to about 32 degrees. The main pool is 33.5m and is heated to around 29 degrees. There are inflatable toys every afternoon from 1pm – 5pm during the school holidays and weekends.

There aren’t really any food shops around, so if you’re wanting something other than what is sold at the pool, you could stop at the Olde Beach Bakery for takeaways.
