The Aigantighe Art Gallery, Timaru

Overview

Suitable for all ages

This art gallery is worth checking out, especially if the weather means you want to be inside. The artwork displayed is a mixture of pieces by local, national and international artists. Some of the displays are temporary exhibitions, so it’s worth visiting even if you’ve been before.

For kids there’s a children’s art area where they can play, draw and read books related to art. During the school holidays, there are dress ups related to animals or figures in the paintings on display which allow kids to interact with the paintings in a different way. There are also art competitions and an ‘Art Hunt’ that kids can take part in. It’s worth checking out the Facebook page here for school holiday events and temporary exhibitions.

There are extensive gardens with pieces of sculpture displayed which are open even when the art gallery is closed.
