There’s a swimming spot that is popular with those in the know just north of Oakura in the Oakura River. There are toilets nearby, picnic tables and places to park. The river opens out to the beach, which is one of the more kid friendly ones in the Taranaki area, although of course children should always be supervised around water whether it’s in the sea or river.

Address: The river access is just off South Road, near the Kaitake Rugby Club and signposted for Corbett Park. Just north of Oakura before SH45 goes over the Oakura River, if heading towards Oakura or just after the bridge if heading towards New Plymouth.
