Parana Park, Hamilton

Overview

Suitable for All ages

This park on the edge of the Waikato River, has a large water feature in the form of a summer pool, made up of 3 separate pools – very popular with kids of all ages. Note the warning sign near the pools though, advising that due to the natural location, kids shouldn’t put their heads under the water (easier said than done!) and should wash their hands thoroughly after use. Swim nappies also need to be used on young kids.

There’s a viewing platform over the Waikato River and an aviary within the Potter Children’s Garden. All of this is in addition to a regular playground, which with Memorial Playground just next door, means lots of equipment to choose from! Look out for the Kowhai themed features like the Kowhai flower shaped slide.

Big trees provide shade over parts of the playground and plenty of spots for a picnic. Lots of space to run around and a walking path next to the Waikato River for a stroll or with the kids on bikes/scooters. If you go no further, check out the Spitfire which is parked up about 100 metres away in Memorial Park!
