Gladstone Inn, Carterton

Overview

Suitable for all ages

This pub is steeped in history even if the original building is no longer around. A pub on this site first opened to service those being ferried across the river which is sits next to. While it’s not far from Carterton, it has a rural, peaceful feel about it.

On a fine day, it’s great for outdoor eating as the kids can run around on the grass and even walk down to the river (with an adult for younger kids). There’s a small shaded play area including a gravel pit also outside.

The food is typical pub meals (like fish and chips, steak sandwich) with a few extras (a few salad options) done reasonably well. There’s a separate pizza menu and a kids’ menu available (see here). To help kids stay at the table there is colouring in and some kids’ books.
