Morere Hot Springs, Wairoa District

Overview

Suitable for all ages

These hot pools are surrounded by scenic reserve with several bush walks available to do, varying from 20 minutes to 2 hours. It’s probably a good idea to walk before you soak in the pools. The bush setting makes this a truly wonderful place for soaking in the hot and cold pools. There’s a dedicated kids’ paddling pool as well as 5 other public pools of varying sizes and temperatures. The Nikau Pools are an easy 5 minute walk up through bush.

The water in the pools is salty as it originated on the sea floor and is supposed to be highly therapeutic. The pools can be enjoyed in rain or sun and through all seasons although it’s a good idea to take plastic bags to keep your things dry if it’s raining and warm clothes to wrap kids up in if it’s cold.

There’s a cafe and paid BBQs onsite so that you can make a day of it. This is the last piece of coastal native bush on the East Coast.
