Overview
Suitable for all ages
This is a great place for the whole family to come and learn about bees, why they’re important to the whole food chain and of course how honey is made. There are interactive displays including microscopes for looking at honeycomb and bees. There’s also a huge glass display of live bees, so you can watch them come and go to their hives! Each hive has a queen bee which is marked so you can try to spot it. And of course there are also honey samples to try (10 varieties in all) and discuss which is your favourite (make sure you supervise your kids tasting samples).
You can dress up as a bee, try on a bee keeper’s head gear and smell a honey comb. There’s colouring in during the school holidays and of course lots of products that use honey to browse and buy at anytime.
There are some kids’ activities for printing available here on their website if you want to build up to a visit. And some ‘bee facts’ that you could test older kids with after a visit available here.
This place is good to come on cold or rainy days but equally good if you need to escape the heat of the summer. They also seem to sell honey by weight if you BYO clean, empty jar, so you can take home whatever your kids favoured in the taste test!
