Wild Earth Nature Park, Takaka

Overview

Suitable for all ages

**As of December 2016 Wild Earth Nature Park is under new ownership – Anatoki Salmon. Awaiting reviews to know if it’s being run to the same high standards. Please email me here if you’ve visited and let me know what you think**

Only open in the summer months, this is so much more than just a very good cafe – there are animals to pet, tame eels to feed, mini golf to play and a huge amount of space for kids to run around. All of this and delicious, healthy food!

The long finned eels in the Anatoki River, which runs right through the property, are highly treasured by the cafe owners. It’s a short bush walk down to where the eels congregate and they’ll come out onto the rocks when you offer them food (which Wild Earth provide).

The menu has breakfast options (until 12pm), burgers and salads – all of these can be made into smaller portions for kids but there’s also a dedicated kids’ menu.

Check the website or their Facebook page here for special events (especially In January – like the Sunday summer spit roast evenings).

Wild Earth is about 10 minutes from the main SH60 road at Takaka but is well worth the detour if you’re looking for a stop en route to/from Golden Bay.

It’s unusual to find a place that kids and adults can relax in and enjoy equally. The great food definitely makes the experience even better!
